Ithaca Janzen
The comfort and warmth of wrapping up in your favorite blanket with a cup of tea. In many ways, the processes of quilting and ceramics are mirrored. Clay lends itself to fluid forms that are fired to permanent hardness, while quilting is rigid in its pieced design but when finished, draped and folds without concrete form. In this work I enjoy exploring the processes that move between organic and geometric, incorporating elements of collage and mosaic to create nostalgic everyday pieces that feel like home. Ithaca Janzen lives with her husband, two young kids, and one middle-aged dog in Oregon City where she enjoys a cozy cup of tea every morning.
