Ian Madin
I am a retired geologist and spent most of my career doing field work in every part of Oregon, during which time I became fascinated with the shapes, colors and textures that stones in the wild acquire. In retirement I started to make sculpture with natural stones that I collect from roadside ditches all around the state. I let the natural shapes guide the form and try to preserve some of the natural patinas to contrast with the worked and polished stones. I try to find the story that each individual stone can tell about its journey through deep time.
